The eWorldwide Group, in collaboration with IEEE and a distinguished panel of global experts, is pleased to announce an interactive webinar titled “The Evolving Role of Stakeholders to Build Holistic Digital Resilience to Safeguard Children and Young People in the Online World” to be held on June 26th at 8am UK time. This timely event will address the pressing global challenges children and young people face in the digital world, particularly exploitation and addiction to social media.
The webinar will provide insights into the recent breakthroughs made by governments, regulators, civil society, and educationalists to improve safeguarding practices. It will also provide a platform for young people to directly exchange their views, experiences, and recommendations with governments and other key stakeholders.
The welcome address will be delivered by Sarah Pinnock, Prevent Coordinator at Luton Borough Council, followed by Prof. Salma Abbasi, Chairperson and CEO of the eWorldwide Group, setting the stage for the discussions. The keynote address will be given by Baroness Beeban Kidron, Crossbench Peer in the UK House of Lords and Founder of the 5Rights Foundation.
The webinar will feature two panel discussions. The first panel, “Enhancing Online Policies and Regulations of Digital Services to Protect Children and Young People from Online Exploitation and Escalating Social Media Addiction”, will include panelists from the IEEE SA, Luton Borough Council, Educating Nepal, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, Rwanda.
The second panel, “Building Human Digital Resilience and Mental Well-being for Children and Young People from Online Addiction Risks, Bullying and Exploitation by Dangerous Social Media Influencers”, will feature panelists from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Republic of the Gambia, the International Commission on Cyber Security Law, Kaduna State University, University of Bradford School of Law, and FUTURE Youth Ambassadors, Nepal.
The webinar will conclude with an interactive Q&A session, followed by next steps and way forward presented by Prof. Salma Abbasi, and closing remarks by Moira Patterson, Global Market Affairs & Standards Partnerships Director at the IEEE Standards Association.
